The top bearing cup set in the image was made in 1914. It held loose half-inch ball bearings against the axle of a 1914 Chevrolet. The bearing cup surface had pitted, damaged the ball bearings and no longer provided a smooth rotation.
The bottom bearing cup set in the image was made in September 2014 and includes angled roller bearings. It has been roughly carburised to match the appearance of the original.
When fitted, the new bearing cup will be indistinguishable from the old.
